Suzanne Groothuis

Suzanne Groothuis is a Dutch interdisciplinary artist and stage designer based in Brussels. She began her career after earning her Bachelor Scenography and Visual Arts at the Minerva Academy in Groningen (2008).

Between 2008 and 2011 she developed and created two performances (Groene Dekens 2008 and Ingehaakt (2009) and created the scenography for various shows and events. In 2011 she moved to Belgium where she earned a complimentary degree in Interactive Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Anderlecht (2017).

Her work is diverse and could be located at the crossroads between installation art, theater, dance and audiovisual arts. The concepts for her creations are always based on current social issues. Living in Brussels she takes inspiration from the daily struggles by the multitude of different social groups living side by side in the city.

Throughout her career Suzanne has worked on several different projects in which art and theatre was used as a tool to give a voice to children and young adults in difficult situations. She made theatre, films and exhibitions with children in Poland, Egypt, Kosovo, Gaza (Palestine) and different refugee centres in the Netherlands.
