From 11-14 February 2018 the PUSH delegation visited Krokusfestival, the international arts festival for young audiences in Hasselt, Belgium. This year was the festivals 21th edition, with over 30 companies from all over Europe and far beyond and over 150 activities. 120 international delegates visited the festival this year, which the PUSH delegation was part of.
The PUSH partners and artists saw seven very different shows during their stay: Alex in vuilbakland/Alex in trash land (6+) by Villanella & Maria Clara Villa-Lobos (BE), licht!/Licht! (3+) by Tout petit (BE), De koers/the race (10+) by Une Tribu Collectif (BE), Nomades (6+) by La Llava Maestra (CL), Cartoon (6+) by Anton Lachky Company (BE), Ping (5+) by Esther de Koning (NL) and Roest/rust (7+) by De Dansers & plan d- / Andreas Denk (NL).
They also attended three professional seminars: PUSH, Think Local, Create Global and Teenagers & Arts. In the PUSH seminar partners and artists presented the project and looked back on the gender and (over)protection labs. The artists and lab leader Sara Vertongen from the (over)protection lab talked about their experiences and the impact of the lab on their work. The seminar ended with table discussions about gender and (over)protection in the context of the wide range of different countries attending Krokusfestival.
The PUSH group visited the double exhibition foreverYOUNGforever at CCHA (cultuurcentrum Hasselt) and Hasselt Fashion Museum: an exhibition on the image of the child and ‘youthquake’ in fashion. At the Fashion Museum the PUSH group followed a guided tour, led by the director.
During their festival visit, the PUSH artists and partners had plenty of occasions to socialise and network in an informal context, not only with each other but also with the many other international delegates present.
